Power out in Wicker Park, Logan Square, UK Village, etc.

Some areas of the Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square, and Ukranian Village neighborhood are currently without power.  There is no explanation as to what happened yet, or when power will be restored, but the outage is confirmed and a known issue by ComEd.

According to the ComEd Website, there are approximately 85 outages along the near west side, effecting over 8000 customers.  Some areas of Lakeview have also been effected, and brownouts were reported as far north as Uptown.

Currently there is no explanation as to what knocked out power, or when it will be restored.  Some residents did report hearing an explosion prior to the power outage, via twitter.

Anyone experiencing heat sickness should take a cool bath/shower, use candlelight instead of flashlights.  Be careful not to start fire!

Real Chicago News will monitor the situation, and will update this article accordingly.

UPDATE: Most areas are expected to have power restored between 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., the probable cause of the outage is still undetermined.

UPDATE: 1 resident claims a blown transformer may be responsible, and has set a building on fire in Logan Square.

UPDATE: CBS 2 is reporting electrical fires are to blame for the power outages.  Overheating may have been a factor.  The smoke rings posted on twitter today, were likely the result of exploding electrical transformers!

UPDATE: Power restored to most of Logan Square, some parts of Wicker Park, UK Village, and Fulton Market still in the dark.  Estimates between 3pm and 9pm for service restoration.  Luckily, temperatures are beginning to cool off today, and will continue throughout the week!
